When it comes to generating passive income, I am a complete noob. There are some extremely talented writers who continually inspire and awe me. One such writer is WriterGig.

Not that she really needs any additional promotion (her body of work speaks for itself) but I thought it would be fun to compare an established writer’s earnings to mine and analyze the results. Keep in mine that I have elected to use Bukisa for this analysis since it is a relatively new site and we both joined approximately one month ago.

During the past 30 days, WriterGig has published 5 articles, and by her own admission, has not done much in the way of promotion. I have also published 5 articles, submitting each article only to Digg and StumbleUpon. The results – WriterGig has earned $17.20 versus my $1.32 (a 1200% difference)!

On the surface it appears that I must be doing something wrong. Why would 2 individuals, with the same amount of published articles, have such diametrically opposite results after one month? I am relatively good at creating worth-while articles. While not being the best thing you will ever read, I could certainly be a lot worse. I research competitive, high-paying, keywords that get plenty of monthly searches.

Basically, it all comes down to reputation! WriterGig is an established freelance writer that has proven that she knows how to make money by writing articles. People will always follow those who are successful. Prove to someone that you know what you are talking about and you will get people to follow your work.

As an example of the difference in our online reputations, WriterGig’s profile has been viewed 296 times. Mine has been viewed 23 times. She has well over fifty people in her network; I have one. It is not too difficult to see how there could be such a tremendous difference in our earnings. If you are following her results on eHow, most likely you are going to pop over to Bukisa and see how she is doing there as well. I cannot blame you, and if you didn’t, I would know that you are not serious about developing your passive income streams.

Does this mean I should give up? Absolutely not! Developing this type of passive income takes time. WriterGig has been writing on eHow for over a year now. She has built up hundreds of quality articles. She has diversified into affiliate marketing and niche blogs. She is a role model that should be followed if you want to learn the secrets of making money online. If you have not had the chance, you should grab a copy of her latest eBook. In it, she documents how she is able to generate such impressive results.

While it is clear that her earnings potential crushes mine currently, I plan on slowly adding to my article base, one paragraph at a time. In time, maybe someone will do an earnings comparison against me.
